- The Victorian Government has announced $236 million to buy land needed to deliver 14 new schools including Merrifield West Primary School – in Mickleham
- The initiative will support plans to cater for 90,000 more students over the next five years in Victoria’s highest growth areas
Melbourne, 14 March 2018: The Victorian Government is set to buy land needed to meet the future needs of Melbourne’s fastest growing communities including Merrifield in Mickleham. Over the past five years Mickleham has experienced robust population growth of 165% from 1,185 to 3,144 people compared to just 10.7% for the state of Victoria.
The recent announcement is a boon for the local community of Mickleham. MAB Corporation and Gibson Property Corporation (GPC), the developers of Merrifield, welcomed the Government’s commitment to purchase the land for the future Primary School – paving the way for much needed education facilities required to service the rapidly growing population in Merrifield.
MAB Corporation Managing Director, Andrew Buxton, said the Andrews Labor Government announcement marked an important commitment to ensure Victoria remains the Education State.
“We look forward to supporting the Victorian Government in delivering its investment in education to Merrifield. The commitment represents another important milestone for Merrifield in delivering education and lifelong learning opportunities to Victoria’s largest mixed-use masterplanned community.”
Member for Yuroke, Ros Spence added, “Mickleham is growing rapidly, and we are getting on with the job of delivering the new schools local families needs. When it opens, Merrifield West Primary School will be another great local school that the whole community can be proud of”.
