An Active Bunch – MAB in Action
It has been a busy schedule for the MAB team throughout 2012 – both in and outside of work.
Chief Operating Officer David Hall said he is delighted that the team is so active in a range of interests outside of working hours.
“Our Sport and Rec team developed a great schedule of activities for staff including rock climbing and boot camp,” said Mr Hall.
Also in the name of fitness, several members of the team participated in the Medibank Melbourne Marathon in October and came first place in the Hertz/BRW Corporate Relay race in November.
General Manager Richard Johnston took his love of running even further, training all year for the New York marathon. However, the onslaught of Hurricane Sandy ruined those plans. “It was devastating to see the impact to the people of New York. It was the right decision to cancel the event to focus on the recovery efforts,” said Mr Johnston. “Perhaps next year.”
Executive Assistant Karen Heitsch embarked on a life changing working holiday to Cambodia in October. Following in the steps of two other MAB colleagues who have made the trip, Ms Heitsch participated in a two-week placement volunteering for the International Volunteer HQ orphanage/childcare program.
“I felt honoured to participate,” said Ms Heitsch. “The children were beautiful and l am already making plans to make a return visit.”
In the lead up to the trip, Ms Heitsch held a series of fund raising activities at MAB including an afternoon tea and soup lunch.
“I was moved by the support from the team,” said Ms Heitsch. “It was great to use the funds raised to purchase new school uniforms for the children.”
