Banksia, Set to be the Beacon of Docklands

Banksia, Set to be the Beacon of Docklands

The transformation of the Docklands NewQuay precinct is set to continue with the introduction of a 4,600 square metre park set around a new residential development.

Banksia, designed to resemble the Australian native flower, is part of a $140 million project developed by MAB Corporation. Founder and Executive Director of MAB Corporation Michael Buxton said he was excited to see NewQuay take shape.

“Creating public spaces in which people love to live, work, play and visit is central to our vision to turn NewQuay into an architectural waterfront location. With its statement design and surrounding parkland, Banksia is our latest step in bringing this to life,” said Mr Buxton. “Open space and distinctive architecture are both key to continuing to bring the Docklands to life.”

Over the last 13 years, MAB Corporation has spearheaded the development of the NewQuay precinct – including the recent launch of the 1800 square metre Monument Park, a visually dynamic arts and landscape space for the public – as well as a number of residential and mixed use developments.

NewQuay will also be home to the $18 million Ron Barassi Snr Park, a state government initiative that will feature a football oval, two full sized soccer fields, netball courts, play equipment and community facilities.

“The Docklands is constantly evolving as more offices, homes and public spaces enter the fold. We’re seeing a growing number of cafes, restaurants, art galleries and local businesses pop up as they realise the benefits that the location offers,” said Mr Buxton.

According to the City of Melbourne’s latest Census of Land Use and Employment, in 2014 Docklands was home to more than 53,000 jobs – up 44 per cent compared to 2012 – as well as 190 cafes and restaurants, 14 bars and pubs and seven educational institutes. The latest research by the Grattan Institute also revealed that the Docklands has become an economic powerhouse with workers generating $50 more per hour than the city wide average.

“A five minute walk to the CBD, right on the water, and with public transport on your doorstep, it makes sense that this area of Melbourne has become attractive to businesses and residents alike.

“Banksia and public spaces like this new park provide a boost to not only NewQuay but to the Docklands so it can fulfil its potential as one of Australia’s prime waterfront locations.”

Banksia offers luxurious living throughout all residences, which are generously spacious with expansive balconies, living and meals areas suitable for entertaining, kitchens with island benches and Miele wall appliances, as well as walk-in robes and en-suites to master bedrooms.

Features in the Sky Homes and Penthouse apartments include lock-up garages, a dedicated lift, a separate laundry with in-built appliances, a butler’s kitchen with a wine fridge and cooking facilities, additional terrace areas and ensuites overlooking the water.

All residents will also have access to the rooftop Banksia Club which includes a bar, BBQ area, music lounge, spa, gym, infinity wading pool and plunge pools.
