Destination Docklands – fun along the waterfront
It has been a hive of activity at Docklands in recent months with a number of community events held. Destination Docklands CEO Anita Donnelly said it has been wonderful to draw big crowds to the area.
“I am a local resident myself, so l thoroughly enjoy being able to showcase what Docklands has to offer to the wider public” said Ms Donnelly.
The calendar of events was kick started with spectacular New Year’s Eve fireworks which drew a huge crowd on what was a beautiful Summer’s night.
Following the fireworks, Docklands hosted Australia Day celebrations over the long weekend and amazing sand sculpture displays in February.
“Australia Day was a great success with families enjoying kite making workshops, fishing, a thong throwing competition and of course a traditional barbecue.”
In March, two Melbourne Food and Wine Festival events arrived at Docklands complete with live jazz and a popular, free ferry service from Federation Square.
“It was great to welcome ex Masterchef finalist, Dani Venn, to the Food and Wine Festival too” said Ms Donnelly. “Her cooking demonstrations provided handy tips to become a Masterchef at home.”
With the AFL season now in full swing at Etihad Stadium, football fans take advantage of inexpensive car parking and the great food on offer along NewQuay Promenade.
“There is a real buzz” said Ms Donnelly.
